With a view to providing the industry with thoroughly trained professionals, an
Integrated M.Sc. programme in Computer Applications and Information Technology was
started by the University. Based on the same lines of the MBA programme, this programme
aims at catering to the needs of the IT industry, which requires skilled manpower
with a thorough understanding of the various concepts and applications of Information
Technology. This precise need led to this innovation that offers five years of theoretical
and practical classes to students not only in software packages and computer languages,
but also in subjects like Geographic Information Systems, Software Engineering,
Data Compression and Encryption, Image Processing, etc. The comprehensive curricula
compare favourably with the best in the area. The programme rightly stresses on
a combination of theoretical concepts and practical exposure. The programme integrates
student-industry interaction at three stages - graduation level and in both the
years of post-graduation in the form of projects and summer training. This enables
the students to get hands-on experience and learn about the intricacies of the industry
at an early stage of their career - a definite advantage that gives them an edge
over others in the field.
A student enrolling for this programme will be awarded the B.Sc. degree, by the
Gujarat University after successful completion of the first three years of the programme.
On successful completion of the full duration of the programme (five years), the
student will be awarded the M.Sc. degree by the Gujarat University. A student enrolled
for this programme does not have to undergo any further admission process from B.Sc.
to M.Sc., i.e., for the last two years of the programme.
The M.Sc. programme of the School is well received by the market and many Universities
have replicated similar programmes. Prof. Narhari Parikh, the founder-Director of
the School, nurtured and developed the programme well to its present level. Over
a period the School has improved its infrastructural facilities. A number of young
and talented faculty members have joined the School. Dr. Parimal Trivedi, Vice-Chancellor
has been taking keen interest in the activities of the School.
A student with a good performance at the HSC (12th Standard) Examination who joins
the School will have immense opportunity not only for career development but also
for finding a suitable placement in business, industry, service sector, other Governmental
and non-governmental organisations or to start his/her own business, with the rigorous
training of over five years provided by the School. Considering the growing demand
for high quality professionals in computer applications at the state, national and
international levels, there is a need for identifying potential students at an early
stage of their studies and equip them with knowledge and skills relevant to the
fast changing technological developments in the area. An endeavour will be made
in this integrated five years course to match the student with the needs of the
community and the country.
The medium of instruction of the Integrated M.Sc. programme will be English.
